OUR CHAPTER
To’Nanees’Dizi Local Government (formerly known as Tuba City Chapter) is located on the western portion of the Navajo Nation. To’Nanees’Dizi is a Navajo term meaning “twisted waters”, referring to the many rivers that make up the aquifers our community resides upon.
Serving over 238,000 acres, TNDLG aims to enhance community prosperity and local autonomy. Within our chapter we have 5 operating departments: Administration, Community Development, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and a Tax Office. Through these offices we provide an abundance of resources and services to our local community of Tuba City and its vast greater area.
The To’Nanees’Dizi Local Government conducts numerous community monthly meetings and invites all residents to participate and be involved. Your opinions and input are important and you are welcome to stop by any time. Please check the Activity Calendar for upcoming meetings. Thank you.
The To’Nanees’Dizi Local Government is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 pm. Our office is located at 220 South Main Street, in the heart of Tuba City, Arizona. We are right across the street from Wells Fargo bank and next to the Tuba City Community Center. The Tax Office, Accounting Department, and the Executive Manager’s Office are all located at the To’Nanees’Dizi Chapter.
The Western Navajo Fair office is located at the Western Navajo Fairgrounds, east of town, just off Highway 160.
We welcome you to Tuba City and invite you to visit us at the Chapter House.
Our Community
Tuba City is nestled along U.S. Route 160 as the spearhead of the Western Agency of the greater Navajo Nation. Our community neighbors Moenkopi, Arizona of the Hopi Reservation and shares in the presence of the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe who reside in and around our surrounding area.
Though not a “city”, Tuba City has a population of 8,611, making us the largest community of the Navajo Nation and third largest community in Coconino County. Consisting of primarily Navajo residents, our community is home to a plethora of various demographics due to being the Western Navajo hub of the Indian Health Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Geographically Tuba City is placed within the Painted Desert, situated on a high plateau. Many of our geographic features detail the history of our land through the layers of red sandstone. We are also home to a copious amount of historic artifact trailings, such as the Dinosaur tracks, located just outside of our community. With many other unwritten geographic wonders, Tuba City serves as a portal to so many other natural monuments such as Coalmine Canyon, the Little Colorado River, and of course the Grand Canyon.
Home of the 2015 World Champion Team Roper and numerous state champion teams, Tuba City also boasts the “best performing” school in Navajo country. Our traditional values, community spirit, and family strength make for a comforting home town feel. From the traditional Hopi dances in Moenkopi, to being the home of the great Western Navajo Fair, Tuba City offers so much to explore.
